NCTC's impact is felt from the halls of Congress to "Main Street" in local communities across the nation.

Coalitions

There is strength in numbers. CEP is a local and national leader in building alliances among organizations and individuals with similar advocacy goals.

We lead two coalitions:

1. National Community Tax Coalition LLC

The National Community Tax Coalition LLC (NCTC) is the nation's largest, most comprehensive membership organization for community-based organizations offering free tax and financial services to low-income working families. NCTC's more than 2,100 members empower low-income workers to build a more secure financial future for themselves and families through innovative financial services.

The Center for Economic Progress serves as the parent organization of the National Community Tax Coalition LLC. To learn more, visit the NCTC website and blog. Read NCTC's annual State of the Field Report.

Coalition members work together to:

  • Share practices
  • Identify program needs
  • Develop public policy favorable to low-income taxpayers
  • Offer technical assistance and training to new and emerging community tax preparation, and outreach efforts

2. Make Work Pay Coalition

CEP is a leading partner in the Make Work Pay Coalition, a group of more than 30 Illinois organizations that helped secure the creation of the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in 2000. Today, the coalition continues to push for increasing and expanding the state EITC.
