For 25+ years, CEP has served as a trusted provider of tax and financial services for low-income families.

Advocating for Working Families

Families need a fair tax system that rewards work and does not tax them into poverty. They also need a responsive consumer financial system that promotes positive spending and savings opportunities.

Serving 20,000 families a year, CEP understands these needs, and advocates for tax credits that benefit working families and consumer financial products that work for all Americans.

Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC) are federal tax credits that greatly impact the lives of low and moderate-income working people. Together in 2013, the EITC and CTC raised 9.4 million, included 5 million children, out of poverty. Learn more.

Rethinking the EITC

The EITC, a credit worth up to $6,143 per household, is available only as a lump-sum credit payable after a tax return is filed. Recognizing potential limitations a one year lump-sum payment may have for many working families who live paycheck to paycheck, CEP is currently piloting an alternative disbursement method of the EITC during the year it is earned.
