Coalitions

There is strength in numbers. The Center is a local and national leader in building alliances among organizations and individuals with similar advocacy goals.

The Center leads two coalitions:

1. National Community Tax Coalition

The National Community Tax Coalition (NCTC) seeks to dramatically increase access to tax credits, benefits and asset-building opportunities for low- and moderate-income individuals, families and communities. The NCTC is made up of more than 600 community tax preparation and asset-building organizations located throughout the U.S. To learn more, visit the NCTC website and blog.

Coalition members work together to:

  • Share practices,
  • Identify program needs,
  • Develop public policy favorable to low-income taxpayers, and
  • Offer technical assistance and training to new and emerging community tax preparation, and outreach efforts.

2. Make Work Pay Coalition

The Center is a leading partner in the Make Work Pay Coalition, a group of more than 30 Illinois organizations that helped secure the creation of the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in 2000. Today, the coalition continues to push for increasing and expanding the state EITC.
