Focus on Families

We work to make tax time less taxing for people who deserve all the tax credits possible.

Sharing your heart and your home may come easily. But keeping up to date on ever- changing income tax laws affecting foster or adoptive parents and legal guardians, that’s a different story.

Many income tax benefits are available to foster and adoptive parents who have income to report. Too often, however, confusion and misunderstanding prevent them from claiming the maximum tax benefits available.

The Center provides free tax prep and these additional resources:

  • Publications that outline basic tax rules and tips for foster and adoptive parents.
  • One-on-One Tax Help. Discuss any tax questions you may have related to claiming foster and adopted children on your income tax return. Contact us at (312) 252-0280, ext. 268, or via email.
  • Seminars to help foster and adoptive parents navigate through the tax code.
  • Common Questions about tax credits for foster and adoptive families.
