Helping Illinois Families Work

Thanks to the advocacy of concerned organizations and concerned individuals, including the Center for Economic Progress, 100,000 additional low-wage families are eligible for the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

Governor Rod Blagojevich signed a bill in 2007 that will repair a flaw in the existing EITC statute – a flaw that has kept several types of working families, such as foster parents, from receiving the full amount of the state credit. Read the Center’s letter to the editor.

Though this bill is a step in the right direction, the size of the Illinois EITC remains among the smallest in the country. Read about the Center’s work to boost the Illinois EITC.
