Volunteer Self-Assessment

The Center for Economic Progress works to ensure that working families in Illinois are given the right opportunities to get ahead financially.  That’s why finding the right volunteers is important to us.

Below is a list of questions to help you decide if the Center is right for you.

1. In order to provide consistent, accurate tax prep and serve clients who come to us for help, we need volunteers to commit to attending regularly scheduled sessions and trainings on-time.

If you plan on volunteering during tax time, are you able to attend several days of training in January in addition to nine volunteer sessions during tax season (January thru April)?

2. Most of our volunteer opportunities are located in communities serving diverse populations.

Are you comfortable volunteering your time in neighborhoods with people who may be different from yourself?

3. We are looking for qualified, skilled volunteers to best serve our clients.

Do you possess the following skills: good customer service, computer proficiency, patient, thorough and dependable?

4. Our tax sites are often fast-paced in order to accommodate the number of clients we serve.

Are you comfortable working in fast-paced and sometimes demanding environment?

Thank you for taking the time to complete this assessment. If you answered "Yes" to these four questions, we encourage you to become involved. Take the next step to becoming a volunteer.
