Our outreach services include:

1. Participating in resource fairs to provide information on CEP's free tax and financial services.
2. Presenting workshops on the following key tax and financial topics

Credit 101

(90 minutes, instructor led)
By the end of this workshop learners will understand that credit is a financial asset, identify the three credit reporting agencies, describe what is reported on a credit report, describe how a FICO credit score is calculated, and know the 5 steps to building credit.

Personal Finance 101

(90 minutes, instructor led)
By the end of this workshop learners will be able to create a monthly budget, identify their financial needs and wants, save using a money management technique, identify new ways to cut costs, and reduce their debt using a debt reduction technique.

Tax Implications of the Affordable Care Act

(60 minutes, instructor led)
By the end of this workshop learners will be able to tell when they have Minimum Essential Coverage, avoid penalties when they do not have the Minimum Essential Coverage, tell when they must report life and income changes to the Marketplace, report life and income changes, tell when they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, enroll in health insurance during a Special Enrollment Period, and determine their eligibility for Medicaid.

Tax Implications of Marriage Equality

(60 minutes, instructor led)
By the end of this workshop LGBT learners will be able to know when they need to file, choose their filing status, choose between the “single” and “head of household” status, choose between the married filing sep- arately and the married filing jointly status, claim the Child Tax Credit and the Child Care Credit.

Tax Issues For Self-Employed Individuals

(60 minutes, instructor led)
By the end of this workshop learners will be able to know when they need to file their taxes, identify their worker classification, prepare for an IRS audit, make quarterly estimated payments, and navigate the IRS website for self-employed individuals.
