Counting on Progress 2015: Holly's Story

On October 27 at City Winery, we were honored to be joined by new and long-time supporters and distinguished guests for our 25th Anniversary celebration. Several hundred attendees enjoyed the evening and learned about CEP and our growing impact to improve the financial stability of those we serve. Our Counting on Progress 2015 program included a conversation with two of personal finance powerhouses -- John W. Rogers, Jr. & Gail MarksJarvis. as our highlight. And our client, Holly Brunton, made it all very real for attendees. Watch Holly's inspiring story. Gov. Pat Quinn visits with CEP clients and volunteers

On February 16, 2013, Governor Pat Quinn encouraged working families to learn about how they can apply for newly-expanded tax relief and highlighted no-cost tax preparation services. The Governor continued his drive to get the word at Truman College, which serves as a tax assistance site organized by the Center for Economic Progress (CEP).

Meet Mireya

The Center for Economic Progress (CEP) celebrates the achievements of participants and the contributions of our volunteer financial coaches as part of the 2014 Progress Program. The Progress Program is a high-impact, eight- week financial coaching program designed to help individuals reach their financial goals and dreams. Mireya Anaya, a participant, shares, "The most important thing I'll take with me from this program is how to teach my daughter positive financial principles...I believe it should be taught at every school across America."

Mayor Rahm Emanuel visits our Loop tax site

On January 23, 2013, Mayor Rahm Emanuel encouraged all working families in Chicago to apply for all the tax relief they have earned and thanked CEP volunteers for their dedication.

Counting on Progress 2014

On September 4, CEP held its annual event and honored Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan for her commitment to standing up for Illinois' vulnerable consumers. In this event video, we honored our champions that make it possible for CEP to provide free year-round services to over 20,000 Illinois families. Our Volunteer Champions: Guinevere "Gwen" Moore, Holland & Knight; and the Illinois CPA Society. Our Corporate Champion: Bank of America. Our Foundation Champion: Steans Family Foundation. Our George Bickford Award (Recognizing a Community Partner): Gail Borden Public Library (Elgin).

Celebrating CEP's Champions

On June 27, CEP held its annual event and honored Mayor Rahm Emanuel for his commitment to working families. Walmart Supports CEP Mission

CEP welcomed Walmart to its family of sponsors on April 10, 2012. A generous donation from Walmart was announced at Harold Washington College, CEP’s Loop area free tax prep site.

Gov Quinn introduced Jason Wetzel, Sr Mgr Public Affairs for Walmart who presented a $50,000 check to CEP. Hear why Walmart believes its donation to CEP helps Illinois residents ‘Save Money, Live Better.’

Angela Perkins of CEP, joins Alan Krashesky and John Stanfield, CPA to discuss the April 17 tax deadline on ABC7 TV’s Sunday morning program NewsViews. Angela provides important tax tips for low-income taxpayers and explains why everyone should file by the deadline. The interview is conducted by Alan Krashesky.

Gov. Quinn Urges Working Families to Apply for Expanded EITC

During a visit to Center for Economic Progress' free tax site at Harold Washington College on April 10, 2012, Governor Quinn encourages low-income taxpayers to apply for all the tax relief they deserve. Gov. Quinn also recommends working families use CEP's free tax sites in Illinois to get help with the EITC and save even more money.

Governor Pat Quinn Tours CEP Tax Site at Truman College

On Feb. 4, 2012 Gov Quinn visited our Uptown tax site at Truman College. The Governor encouraged Illinois' working families to file their taxes in order to take advantage of the increased EITC. The recently passed legislation means larger refunds for hard-working, low-income families.
