Threshold lowered to 80% to qualify for penalty waiver for too little tax withholding and estimated tax payments in 2018

The Internal Revenue Service announced that they are providing additional expanded penalty relief to taxpayers whose 2018 federal income tax withholding and estimated tax payments fell short of their total tax liability for the year. The IRS is lowering the threshold required to qualify for this relief to 80 percent. To qualify, taxpayers must file Form 2210 with their tax return.
